The Spanish stock market trades 34.3 billion euros in February, 25% more than a year ago

MONTHLY TRADING STATEMENTS FOR BME’S MARKETS

 

  • The number of Equity trades is 11.5% higher than in January
  • New issues in the Fixed Income market increase 25.5% from February 2021
  • Trading in IBEX 35 Futures increased by 25.8% and in Mini IBEX Futures by 23.1% compared to the same month of the previous year.

 

The Spanish stock exchange traded 34.3 billion euros in Equities in February, up 25% year on year and up 7% from the previous month. The trading volume so far this year is up 13.4%. The number of trades in February was 4.1 million, 2.3% lower year on year and 11.5% higher than in January 2022.

BME's market share in Spanish equities in 2021 stood at 68.89%. %. The average spread in this month was 6.14 basis points at the first price level (11.5% better than the next trading venue) and 8.59 basis points with order book depth of 25,000 euros (36.1% better), according to an independent report by LiquidMetrix, available here: https://www.bmerv.es/ing/Miembros/MIFID_II.aspx. All figures include both transparent order book (LIT) trading – including auctions – and non-transparent (dark) off-book trading.

The volume traded in February in the Fixed Income markets reached 9.7 billion euros, 33.7% less than in January.  Admissions to trading, including Public Debt and Private Fixed Income issues, amounted to 35.8 billion euros, a decrease of 20.4% compared to January and an increase of 25.5% from the same month the previous year.

The outstanding balance stood at 1.73 trillion euros, up 0.9% for the month and up 3.4% year on year.

The Financial Derivatives market traded a total of 1.6 million contracts in February 2022, representing a nominal 47 billion euros.

Trading in Derivatives contracts on the IBEX 35 index increased across the board compared to the same month  the previous year; trading in IBEX 35 Futures increased by 25.8%, in Mini IBEX Futures by 23.1% and in IBEX 35 Options by 8%.

The open interest increased 1.5% in Stock Futures and also in Option contracts, 16% in IBEX 35 Options and 9.4% in Stock Options, all compared to January.
