The Spanish stock market trades 43 billion euros in November

  • The Equity trading volume grows 52.1% from October and the number of trades increases 39.2%
  • New issues in the Fixed Income markets increases 26.6% from January
  • The trading volume in IBEX 35 and Mini IBEX 35 Futures since January increases 1% and 7.8% respectively

The Spanish stock market traded 43 billion euros in Equities in November, up 52.1% from the previous month and up 4% from the same period last year. The accumulated effective volume traded to the end of November totalled 393 billion euros, 8.4% less than in the previous year.

The number of trades in November was 5.8 million, 39.2% more than in the previous month and 85.1% more than in November 2019.  The number of accumulated trades to the end of November amounted to 51.2 million, up 48.9% year on year.

BME's market share in Spanish equities in November stood at 73.45%. The average spread for the same period was 6.82 basis points at the first price level (24% better than the next trading venue) and 10.22 basis points with order book depth of 25,000 euros (32.9% better), according to an independent report by LiquidMetrix, available here: www.bmerv.es/ing/Miembros/MIFID_II.aspx. All figures include both transparent order book (LIT) trading – including auctions – and non-transparent (dark) off-book trading.

Fixed Income trading volume in November came in at 15.3 billion euros, down 46.6% from October and down 38.7% year on year. New admissions to trading, including Public Debt and Private Fixed Income, came in at 13.3 billion euros, up 26.6% year on year for the January to November period.

The outstanding balance stood at 1.7 trillion euros, which implies a year on year increase of 7.2% for the first eleven months.

Trading in the Financial Derivatives market in the first eleven months was up 1% in IBEX 35 Futures, up 7.8% in Mini IBEX 35 Futures and up 10.5% in Stock Options, compared to the previous year.

Trading in Stock Futures in November increased 45.9% from the previous month while the open interest was up 8.7%. The volume of Mini IBEX Options was up 68.9% from October and the open interest grew 9.5%.
