The Spanish Stock Exchange traded €62 billion in August, up 40.4% year on year

MONTHLY TRADING STATEMENTS FOR BME MARKETS

  • The equity trading volume in the first eight months of the year was up 23.6%
  • Trading volume in ETFs until August was up 42.8% year on year
  • The trading volume in Warrants and Certificates market until August, up 49.7%
  • Trading volume in IBEX 35 Futures in August was up 15% year on year
  • Growth in Corporate Debt issues,  up 126.6% in August, reaching 105.4bn euros of admissions in the first  eight months

 

Equities

The equity trading on the Spanish Stock Exchange in August came in at € 62 billion, up 40.4% higher than in the same month a year earlier. The trading volume in the first eight months of the year was € 681.6 billion, up 23.6% year on year.

The number of trades to the end of August reached 42.9 million, down 4.1% from the same month 2014. In August, the number of trades reached 4.4 million, down 7.1% from the same month a year earlier.

As for the ETF segment, the trading volume in the first eight months of the year totalled € 9.1 billion, up 42.8% from the same period a year earlier. Number of trades until August reached 119,473 up 77.7% those registered in the first eight months of 2014. Number of trades in August reached 14,536 up 76% from the same month a year earlier.

The trading volume on the Warrants and Certificates market in the first eight months of the year reached € 818.2 million, up 49.7% year-on-year. The trading volume in this market in August reached € 85.4 million, up 63.8% from August 2014.

Futures and Options

Trading in IBEX 35 Futures grows a 15% in relation to the same month a year earlier. Total trading volume in Derivatives market in August reached 2.5 million contracts, a similar amount that the one reached a year earlier.

It is worth mentioning the heavy trading in August in Stocks Derivatives with 198,367 Futures on Stocks and 1,255,021 options on Stocks traded, up 392% and 9.6% respectively, in relation to August 2014. Trading in Index Derivatives has also grown in relation to the same month a year earlier with 588,236 IBEX 35 and 258,344 IBEX Mini Futures traded, up 13.7% and 8.7% respectively.

The open interest on IBEX 35 Futures at the end of August was 99,794 contracts, up 26.8% year-on-year.

Fixed Income

The total of new issues traded on Corporate Debt in August reached € 7.4 billion, up 126.6% year-on-year. In the period from January to August the number of new issues reached €105.4 billion, up 38.5% from the same period a year earlier.

The trading volume in this market in August came in at € 24.2 billion, down 49.9% year-on-year. The trading volume in the first eight months of the year reached €386.1 billion (-56.1%)

The trading volume on the SED electronic platform in August came in at €38 million, while to the end of August totalled €700 million, of which €232 million correspond to Public Debt, growing a 13.9%
