BME traded €42.8 billion in equities in September, up 39% from August

  • The number of trades to the end of September reached 41.4 million, down 13% year on year

  • The trading volume in financial derivatives in September was up 154% on the preceding month
  • The volume of Corporate Debt issues on MARF exceeded €1.5 billion in the first nine months of the year, almost 3 times as much as the previous year

 

Equities 

The equity trading volume in the first nine months of the year on BME was €513.3 billion, down 31% year on year. The trading volume in September came in at €42.8 billion, up 39% from the previous month and down 31% in relation to the same month a year earlier. 

The number of trades to the end of September reached 41.4 million, down 13% year on year. In September the number of trades reached 3.7 million, up 18% from the same month a year earlier and down 25% from the same month in 2015. The spreads on the IBEX 35 index continued improving in September. 

As for the ETF segment, the trading volume in the first nine months of the year totaled €4.7 billion, down 52% from the same period a year earlier. Trading volume in September reached €388 million, up 50% from the previous month.

The number of ETF trades to the end of September reached 121,991 down 9% from those registered in the first nine months of 2015. The number of trades in September reached 11,537, up 37.8% from the preceding month and down 20% from the same month a year earlier.

 

Warrants and Certificates

The number of issues of warrants and certificates in the first nine months of 2016 reached 5,245, down 12% from the same period in 2015. 

The trading volume on the Warrants and Certificates market to the end of September reached €555 million, down 37% year-on-year.  In September the trading volume reached €62.2 million, up 43.9% from the previous month and down 10.9% from the same month in 2015

 

Futures and Options

The trading volume in the Derivatives market in September reached 4.56 million contracts, up 154% from the preceding month. It is worth mentioning the heavy trading in Index Derivatives, with 539,195 contracts traded in IBEX 35 Futures and 173,590 in IBEX Mini Futures, with increases of 14.4% and 26.9% respectively, in relation to the previous month. Trading in IBEX 35 Options was up 47.1%, at 249,822 contracts traded.

There was also heavy trading in Stock Futures, with 1,334,819 contracts traded, up 5.8% from the same month a year earlier. There were 2,250,184 contracts traded in Stock Options, down 0.6% year-on-year.

The open interest on IBEX 35 Futures at the end of September was 91,842 contracts, up 4.4% from that at the end of last August.

 

Fixed Income

The trading volume on the Corporate Debt market of BME in September came in at €13.1 billion, which brings the total trading volume for the first nine months of the year to €133.1 billion.

The volume of new admissions in MARF reached €213 million in September, more than double (163%) than that recorded in the same month of last year and €1.5 billion in the first nine months of the year, almost three times as much (154%) as the previous year.

Public Debt trading volume on SENAF, BME’s wholesale electronic trading platform, came in at €21 billion, more than double (104%) than that recorded in September 2015. The trading volume in the first nine months of the year totaled €130 billion, up 75% year on year.
